GUNROX Newbie Guide: How to make a clan logo
Welcome to my "Guide To Making A Good Clan Icon"
Programs you will need:
Paint
Gimp (free version)
First, you will need a ONE COLOR BACKGROUND IMAGE
***GO***

***NO***

Save your image to your computer where you can find it, the type (as in JPEG or PNG) doesn't matter right now.
Open it up in Paint.
Look at the Before & After. (Please click on the images to see full size).

I removed the TM sign by, in paint, clicking the "Color Picker" tool and clicking on the grey. I now have the grey color now. I then went to the "Paint Brush" and painted over the TM part.

If you have an image like this:

You need to bring the white background AS CLOSE as you can to the Black outline as possible. This (when we get to resizing) the generator focuses more on the bulldog when it gets smaller and it isn't tiny to where you can't tell if its a bulldog. This is called "CROPPING". Cropping is when you trim the edges to produce a smaller picture while keeping the same scale; cutting bits off.
After:

I moved all the white spaces closer to the Bulldog, thus focusing on the image.
HOW TO GET A TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND:
What is a transparent background?
A transparent background means that you don't have that ugly white background square. For example: BEEcolony's & DesTroy's clan icon have the white background square (this looks quite tacky).
First, you need to open up the Gimp program I told you to download (link here). Open up your image.

Click on the "Layer" tab and go to "Transparency", and click on "Add Alpha Channel".
Next, click the magic wand and click on the white around the black outlining. Once you've clicked one part you need to go to "Edit" then, clear.

You now have a transparent image, but we are not done yet. Save it as PNG.

Next, we need to get it to a 16x16 image size. (it CAN be less than 16x16)
Go to a website generator, because we can't use paint because 1: it looks like crap, and 2: when you save it it will ask "If you select to save any Transparency will be lost". We don't want that.
Go to http://www.digital-pic.com/icon/index.php
Upload your image. Then generate and out of the four options it gives you of your image click which one you like. Right click on the one you selected and Save As. Don't worry, it automatically saves your image as .ico not .png
Open the icon that is ".ico" on the Gimp program save it as ".png".
(You need to do this because you can only submit a ".PNG" type picture into your clan logo.

You now have a clan icon.

all this can be done just in GIMP without paint and the web site.

I'm still kind of learning this program. When I try to resize an image, it doesn't shrink the WHOLE image, it just closes in on the image.
The image website I use to resize, gives you four options. If you want the image darker, two medium options, and a bright option. Gimp does not have this. I only use Gimp for transparency.
PS: Thanks Bers for the sticky and Fd for compliment.

i dont understand what you mean by "it just closes in on the image" =)
i guess this: go to Image->Scale image, if you dont want to save proportion and want to make exactly 16*16, click on chain in "image size" section and unlock it. type 16 to width and height, press Scale.

duh its Sharpen. Filters->Enhance->Sharpen
Bright option: Colors->Brightness/Contrast
but better try curves: Colors->Curves. Select the curve in gray color and move little down.

to remove TM in GIMP use the same Color Picker (key O) and Pencil or Brush (N or P).
you can easy remove background if it has some pixels of different hue (for example white with gray) using the magic wand (fuzzy select tool in gimp) and increase its Threshold in right panel (toolbox). its kind "how much similar colors will be selected"
